The American Civil War, also known as the Civil War, lasted from 1861 to 1865. The war was to determine the survival of the union, or independence for the confederate states. Some would argue that slavery was the principle cause of the war. After much research, I believe the war started because of the misunderstandings, and conflicts between the North and South. Slavery, however, was one of the main purposes. The North and South had economic and social differences causing many disagreements. They argued about state and federal rights, expansion of slave states, the Abolition Movement, and the election of Abraham Lincoln. The economic and social differences between the North and South made many people discontent. In the North the Federalists favored a strong federal government. The Federalists were ran by George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and John Adams. Their economic policy favored trade and manufacturing. The ideal citizen was the small businessmen. As for foreign policy, they favored Great Britain. In the South, Republicans favored a weak federal government, but strong states. The Republicans were ran by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Their economic policy favored agriculture. The ideal citizen would be small farmers, and they favored France when it came to foreign policy. I am going to argue that a person is irreducible into two parts, thinking thing and b odily thing. Thinking of the two things as separate is like thinking of ‘the surface of a table’ and ‘the wood in the table’ as separate, which is clearly nonsense. If two people can agree on the meaning of tables, surfaces and wood then they must agree that they are the same thing. If mind and body are aspects of the same thing then our certainty of the existence of the thing itself would be the certainty of our existence as both a thinking thing and a physical thing, which would be the same. It does not make sense to be more certain of the existence of one than of the other in this situation. My first point is that the Cartesian runs into the first of two problems. The first occurs because to be a Cartesian one must separate mind and body as things. This is because if mind and body are aspects of the same thing then the Cartesian position is incorrect. The problems are very simply these, how to talk about an individual mind, and how to link this individual mind to a body. Cartesians cannot talk about individual minds unless they do so with reference to individual human beings. In matters of economics, women are offered far fewer employment opportunities, and I believe that this can be validated by the fact that many women have been conditioned to marry well and let him take care of you. Male influences shape womens appearance, behavior, and overall place in society. Women are taught how they are expected to look, think, and act, which leads her to be seen as an object in mens eyes. Her archetype is difficult to fulfill wholly, but still, I feel that women want to please men so that they can feel acceptance. Women need power and respect, and in her hapless quest for equity she often succumbs to the discrimination of male opinion, if only to gain some standing within society. Because she knows that when she cracks the shell and climbs inside the world, it is then that she can become domineering, even manipulative, to obtain what she wants. The good graces and approval of men will ensure financial, social, even emotional security (in business, marriage, and various other social settings). Women are in a position where they can apply intellectual charisma as well as feminine charms to secure their standing in all areas applicable. Not that I support or agree with sexism quite the contrary yet it remains that in order for injustice to end women must present themselves as equals, acting as equals in all areas possible, and expecting nothing more or less than the parallel treatment to which men have been long accustomed. Women must work and provide for themselves, as their own breadwinners, so that the gold-digger stereotype can fade and disappear. The expectations of women must also be eliminated, as the propagation of these unfair ideals (to which no woman could possibly fulfill) is a degrading societal clich.
